My day shadowing the team at Exeter

Exeter Racecourse, who I have this amazing opportunity with was where I spent the Valentine's racemeeting learning from both Daniel Thompson and Lucy Johnson on how to run a smooth and successful race day.

Although freezing I was lucky to start the day following Daniel on his rounds to check all the hospitality areas were of the perfect standard required and checking there were no problems that needed sorting out before racegoers arrived. There wasn’t anything major and I’d like to think I helped by remembering some Wi-Fi passwords that were required. This enabled us to open slightly early which helps to create more turnover in the hospitality areas and please racegoers so everyone is happy. I then got to sit in on the directors meeting which was a great insight into how a racecourse is trying its hardest to operate at the maximum profitability and how they try and attract new clients. It was also great to meet Luke Harvey at this point. Then I was transferred to Lucy who showed me round the winning connections room which enabled me to meet Jeremy Scott, Johnny Farrely and the Cliffords who are such great supporters of racing at Exeter. My main job of the day was to comprise all the tweets after each race which enabled me to learn how to work with the racecourse photographer and how to help build a positive image over social media which is an important part of twenty first century promotion. I had a great day and really look forward to working with the team in the near future.
