Klein Excited for First Full Meeting in Charge

WARWICK Racecourse hosts the first of two meetings over the festive period tomorrow (December 10) with a bumper seven race card, writes Observer reporter – and keen racegoer – Shaun Reynolds.

The Eventmasters Christmas Raceday will be new General Manager Andre Klein’s first opportunity to take full control of a race meeting after arriving in the UK several weeks ago. The Warwickshire-born racegoer moved to Australia in the 1990s where he first took on a marketing role at the South Australia Jockey Club in Adelaide.

But Klein is now back in his home county and is excited for the fixtures, months and years ahead at Warwick Racecourse.

In an interview with the local Leamington Observer newspaper, Klein said: “We have some fantastic races throughout January and February, including the Classic Chase, Kingmaker Chase and Leamington Novices’ Hurdle which attract high-profile runners.

“We have the potential to go places here at Warwick Racecourse, we’ve got a great working team, fantastic facilities and a central location for punters to travel to.”

Mr Klein also announced his intentions to bring overseas horses to Warwick stating that the equine talent in New Zealand has the potential to feature at the Cheltenham Festival in future years.

Klein added: “The majority of jockey’s that have raced in both England and New Zealand are surprised at the talent down under. One of my goals is to get some New Zealand based runners over to Warwick, many believe that New Zealand thoroughbreds are slow – this is not the case.”
