Philippa Holland & Mr Big

I Started riding when I was 3 or 4, pony clubbed with Garth South and hunted with the Hampshire Hunt as a child.

Later I was taught to ride aside by sidesaddle doyeene, Lady Wimborne, who rode elegantly and bravely to hounds with the Quorn - whilst her husband of the time Captain Fred Barker field mastered for (16 seasons.) She was famously gave her husband a lead over a 5 bar gate riding ss, whilst 5 months pregnant. She became my inspiration!

I hunted ss with the Quorn for 3 seasons before moving to Dorset.  Since then I have hunted Ss with Bv, Cattistock, Portman.

I wanted to try riding ss in a point to point and bought a horse Zanzibar Boy, later to find p2p rules no longer accepted sidesaddle. I then discovered a historical ss race originally held in Gillingham over a hundred years ago called The Diana's of the Chase and with some help from the Quorn Hunt, The Household Cavalry, Kings Troop and with kind permission of formula 1 legend Brian Henton I reinstated the ss cross country race at Ingaraby Old hall in Leicestershire.  I have also ridden in both races held there.

Recently I have ridden on three occasions in The Magnolia cup at Goodwood, by kind invitation of Lord March.  I have also in the Blackmore Vale members race twice on Mr big.

Mr big has had a long and illustrious career, including jumping round The Pardabice under Noel Fehily and winning The Gunner Gold Cup at Sandown.

Now aged 14 he's job is to lead Charlie Mann's young horses and most recently honourably carries me up the Lambourn gallops sidesaddle in a bid to challenge for the SSIT Sidesaddle Dash Field Cup.

He also enjoys watching hounds work out cubbing ! And I am his number 1 fan !
