A chance on Dancing Shadow

I’m at Doncaster today for two rides with Victor Dartnall’s Dancing Shadow in the 3m2f handicap chase and Jamie Snowden’s Future Guilded in the 2m3f handicap chase. He’s coming back from a bit of a lay off but with Jamie’s horses in good form hopefully he will go well.

Dancing Shadow has been running well at Exeter and always seems to run a good, solid race. It’s a valuable prize and I think he has a chance.

Cheltenham’s two day meeting also begins today with a cracking card and some superb runners. On Saturday it’s a big day’s racing with Cheltenham the feature meeting and Doncaster having a great card too.

I think I will be riding at Cheltenham where I might be riding Un Beau Roman in the Raymond Mould Handicap Chase. I won Cheltenham’s Bet Victor Handicap Chase on him in November and as a course and distance winner, and if he runs like he did last time, he should go okay. I’ll be doing 10st5lb which is good too.

The Grade 2 Caspian Caviar Gold Cup is a £100k and will be ultra competitive. It’s been won by some very good horses in the past like Exotic Dancer. Philip Hobbs' Village Vic won it last year and he’s runs again. I ride a horse called Turban who looks to be an outsider at the prices. He was bought recently by Paul Henderson from Willie Mullins where he was a decent horse, and he deserves to take his chance.

Paul Nicholls has two chances, Bouvreuil and Frodon and I’d say the former has a very good chance. He was a staying on fifth in the BetVictor Gold Cup and with a bit of luck on his side he shouldn’t finish too far away.

Kylemore Lough runs for Kerry Lee and he’d have chance if it rains. Harry Fry represented by Thomas Brown who was good at Aintree last time although he’s a better horse fresh and it would worry me that he has never done it in a big field. The new course will suit Evan Williams’ Buywise who is always there or thereabouts and it could be his day.

The International Hurdle looks a superb renewal and I’d expect an improved performance from My Tent or Yours on better ground and he will probably end up going off favourite. Ivan Grozny has good form for Willie Mullins and you can’t forget Melodic Rendezvous who is always ultra consistent and a very good money spinner.

It was good to get a winner on Oliver’s Hill at Leicester on Wednesday – its always nice riding a winner for Alan and Lawney Hill.

We put our Christmas tree up yesterday so we are feeling festive in the Scholfield household. I just have to get around to buying some Christmas presents. There will be lots of Christmas parties coming up, but with so much great racing in the winter, I’ll be going very steady!
