England Cricket Legends Phil Tufnell and Graeme Swann to Commentate on the Investec Derby Trial 2016

Investec has today announced ex-England cricketers and BBC Test Match Special stalwarts Phil Tufnell and Graeme Swann as guest commentators on this year’s Investec Derby Trial at Epsom Racecourse.

Prior to commentating live on the race both men will be given tips by leading TV race commentator Richard Hoiles. The former international spin bowlers, who are used to calling the more measured pace of a Test match, will have to up the tempo to keep race fans informed as the Investec Derby hopefuls tackle the famous Epsom course.

Whoever Richard decides is the more adept race commentator will receive £1,000 to a charity of their choice donated by Derby and Test Cricket sponsor’s Investec. Phil Tufnell has chosen Cancer Research while Graeme Swann will be commentating on behalf of Belvoir Cricket and Countryside Trust.

Graeme Swann is widely considered one of the greatest spin bowlers in English cricketing history. He was part of two successful Ashes campaigns, including the legendary England victory in 2009, and was a leading player in England’s World T20 victory in 2010. He finished his career with over 250 test wickets as well as five test half-centuries to his name.

Phil Tufnell took over 1,000 First Class wickets in a long and successful career for both England and Middlesex, inclusive of over 100 Test wickets. His England career witnessed some magnificent spells of bowling such as his famous match figures of 11-93 against Australia at the Oval in 1997.

The Investec Derby Trial is the traditional precursor to the world famous Classic in June and is the centre-piece of the Investec Spring Meeting, the winner of the race is entitled to a wildcard entry to the Investec Derby. This year’s Investec Spring Meeting takes place on 20th April.

Phil Tufnell commented; “I’d say Swanny can talk faster than I can, which might put him at an advantage, but I’ve actually ridden in a horserace when I took on Jason Gillespie a few years back so I can let the audience into a few trade secrets!”

Graeme Swann commented; “Tuffers has got to be ante-post favourite given his racing experience but I reckon there’s a decent chance he won’t remember which horse is in which colours. It should be a lot of fun and we’re both competing for great causes.”
